Feel the Fireworks Rain Down – The Izu Nagaoka Onsen Fireworks Festival

Explore Izu & Hakone

Here’s a look back at one of Japan’s most immersive local fireworks events—because this isn’t just any fireworks show.

Massive bursts of light explode just 150 meters overhead

Your eardrums tingle.
Embers fall like stars.
It’s an overwhelming, body-shaking experience.

We arrived near Chitose Bridge, the heart of the event.

As we crossed the pastel-blue bridge, a magical scene unfolded—dozens of food stalls lined up along the riverbank.
Thank you, Izu Nagaoka, for the good vibes and the good smells.
Our energy spiked—and so did our appetites.

With the orange and purple hues of dusk above us, we strolled and snacked, a gentle breeze adding to the mood.

Thank you, sausage!

Across the river from the food stalls, we managed to find a great spot for viewing.
Unlike some overly packed fireworks festivals, this one still has breathing room—you can truly relax and enjoy.

The space that was both comfortable and amazing

As the self-proclaimed President of the Japan Fireworks Fan Club, I must say—even I was blown away.
The sound was so loud, it almost hurt.
I’d never felt fireworks like this before.

And the grand finale?
Don’t miss it.
A rapid-fire barrage of giant fireworks rains sparks like a dream—
It was so intense, I singed my shirt and hair (no joke).
Locals came prepared—with umbrellas.

Now that makes sense.

If you haven’t seen the Izu Nagaoka Fireworks, you haven’t really seen fireworks.
It’s a proud local tradition—
and we’ll be looking forward to it every year.
