In between the lively festivities of the Numazu Summer Festival, we dropped by a beloved local spot—Misono, a cozy izakaya cherished by the community.

The exterior is simple, clean, and inviting, setting the tone for a relaxing evening.
As soon as we parked in front, the owner came out with a big smile to greet us—a gesture that immediately made us feel at home.
Straightforward Menu, Full of Flavor

We started with the Assorted Sashimi Platter (¥2,800 for one person), following the owner’s friendly recommendation that a single portion would be more than enough.
Of course, I couldn’t resist adding my personal favorite—whelk (¥1,500).
The maguro (tuna) looked mouthwatering even before the first bite, and sure enough, it melted in the mouth. The whelk was outstanding—fresh, chewy, and brimming with flavor.
The Owner’s Colorful Banter

The owner’s banter, slightly cheeky at times, kept us laughing throughout the evening. Many of his stories are unprintable (in the best way), but beneath the humor, he’s clearly a kind-hearted soul.
A Generous Pour and Ice-Cold Drinks

The drink menu is just as tempting.
We enjoyed mega-sized beers and lemon chu-hai, both served ice-cold. The tomato cocktail (¥580) was refreshing, and we ended with a mega highball—a satisfying close to the night.

Since we were already full from the festival, we didn’t get to try everything. But the asari sake-steamed clams and chicken rice ordered by the couple next to us looked amazing. Next time, we’ll come with an empty stomach!
As fireworks began, we settled the bill. Before leaving, the owner handed each of us two snacks, then casually offered us a few carpet tiles to use in our car—“They’re just extras, but they might come in handy,” he said with a grin.

For a first-time visit, it truly felt like we were treated as regulars. That warmth is what makes places like Misono unforgettable.
